Les carpes Japonaise évoquent force, persévérance et courage. Au Japon, elles sont suspendues dans le ciel pour la fête des garçons le 5 mai et l’on peut observer leurs couleurs magnifiques flotter dans le ciel. On appelle cette tradition le « koi nobori »
L’artiste a maintenant deux petits garçons de 5 et 2 ans et chaque année la période des koi nobori est une période remplie de joie au printemps durant lequel la famille se rends dans la campagne et observe les nombreuses carpes qui flottent dans le ciel de toutes leurs couleurs éblouissantes

Japanese carpes symbolize strength, perseverance and courage. They are hung high in the sky on boys’ day, May 5th every year in Japan. One can then enjoy their sumptuous colors reflecting the sunlight. This tradition is called “koi nobori”
The artist now has two grandsons aged 2 and 5 years old and every year, when the time of koi nobori comes, the family rejoice spending time in the Japanese country side, observing beautiful carpes floating in the sky with their stunning colors

This serie is the result of the 2011 Earthquake and Tsunami that shook Japan and the artist expressed her pain for the orphans from the event as well as the hope represented by the coming of spring and a new beginning for the victims of the tragedy.

This work is inspired from sweet springs spent in Japan countryside around the time of Koinobori (鯉のぼり) which is the name of colourful carps flown in Japan on Children’s Day (子供の日 Kodomo no hi). The artist and her family spent several springs in Shimoda, Izu during that period and the beauty of Japan countryside along with this special celebration surrounded by stunning colours has left a strong mark represented in these paintings.
